Overlooking the northwest colonnade is a stylized carving of the
serpent god Kukulcan, shown in another common image,
emerging in human form from the body of a serpent. Carvings of eagles
surrounding Kukulcan
can be seen on the wall where this head is mounted, and they were once
richly painted.
